ferromagnet nostalgichad another problem with dreamhost. this one not at all my fault. I figured out how to fix it myself and my only real complaint is that they failed to respond to my support request in the six hours before i remembered to withdraw the ticket. fyi... if you use dreamhost and ever get a "bad_httpd_conf" error, in the user cp goto manage domains -> edit, then change settings without altering anything takes a second but forces the apache config to regnerate and clears up whatever issue there was
when there was a DMCA issue i had responses in minutes, so im not neccesarily unhappy with their customer service. but... i've heard tons of horror stories so hopefully this kind of thing doesnt become common
The other night i was reminiscing over some of the shitty music i used to listen to. I brought up Jodeci, someone else mentioned Ralph Tresvant, and then i remembered Johnny Gill. These were the artists who recorded some of the first albums I ever owned, all on cassette tape. awesome shit, cassette tapes. I used to just record hours of radio and then re-record the songs i liked because i was cheap and stole music even then
it was the early nineties this is what was blasting through my walkman and how awesome were those things! changed the world, they did
Johnny Gill - S/T (1990) My favorite New Edition alumnus. I wish i was born ten years earlier and had lost my virignity to this album, rather than the oh so romantic ambient noise of a bowling alley parking lot. he did not pick up the spare by the sound of it, Johnny would have Rub You the Right Way My My My
Salt N Pepa - Blacks Magic (1990) I was seven years old and this had one of those new fangled parental advisory icons on it. The guy at Wherehouse didnt seem to notice either of these facts. My parents didnt seem to notice either. My brother did contsantly make fun of me for saying "pepper" like the little white girl i was. Lets Talk About Sex
Amg Grant - Heart in Motion (1991) did i mention i was a little white girl? Baby, Baby was one of my favorite songs for a couple years. this was during Grant's "pop" period. shes back to christian music now, im back to not listening to her. Baby Baby is still a great song Baby Baby Every Heartbeat
Color Me Badd - C.M.B. (1991) I remember staying up late to catch these guys on Arsenio and swoon. Cheesy boy bands go way back, see. I use I Wanna Sex You Up on mixtapes of a particular kind to this day I Adore Mi Amore I Wanna Sex You Up
Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam (1989) I have a second cousin who lived with us while she attended UCI. She used to put this on and have me dance for her friends. There was no coaxing or cajoling needed. I fucking love to shake my ass and always have. Pump Up the Jam
Hi-Five - S/T (1992) There was a slew of these kinds of acts in the early nineties. Its always the same. Someone has some success, in this case New Edition and Boyz II Men, and every label rushes to scoop up anyone similar and emulate. So we got Bel Biv Devoe, ABC, an endless list of soloists, and these guys. I played this tape endlessly until i lent it to my cousin during a long drive to Texas and never got it back. That bastard. I Can't Wait Another Minute I Like The Way
Mint Condition - Meant to be Mint (1991) File Mint Condition under that same catagory. Though their sound was actually more similar to Jodeci, a little more New Jack i guess. Don't tell her, but i used to sing this to my little sister all the time. Babies are the only ones who dont tell me to shut up. You're Breaking My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)
thats about it. ive uploaded more but im tired of typing and theres a mic in my face i need to turn on already.
Jurrasic 5 has a new album coming out on my birthday. last year all i had to look forward to was Mr. A-Z this year is already shaping up to be a bit more exciting. they're streaming 3 tracks on their myspace. heres one of them
